About the School

In January 2008, the Gateway School of Fashion was set up in partnership with Karen Millen, HOPEHIV and the University for the Creative Arts to provide skills to young people affected by the HIV epidemic in South Africa.

The School is located in the city of Pietermaritzburg, a province of KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa, in a workshop that used to make coffins.

Through training and developing students in the creative and practical skills of fashion design, as well as life skills and basic computer literacy, the project aims to empower young people affected by HIV/AIDS to build sustainable lives for themselves and their families.
